Meet Courtney

Courtney grew up in north western Alberta, where her family owned a small cattle & horse operation. Her parents raised and trained Tennessee Walking horses and had a small commercial herd.

From a very young age Courtney was riding and training horses. A lot of her life was spent up in the mountains of Willmore Wilderness Park. Where her family rode into the back country with a string of riding horses and pack horses. Wrangling for outfitters, taking up hunters, hikers or just vacationing as a family.

When Courtney graduated high school she moved to Vermilion Alberta where she went to Lakeland College.

After College Courtney worked at a small animal veterinary clinic, a large animal veterinary clinic as well as an Equine Lameness Specialty clinic. It is here that she met her husband and then moved to northern Manitoba.

In 2020 Courtney built her first saddle under the watchful eye of Brian Ironmonger and that spiked a passion for leather work. She spent some time making the odd piece of horse tack for friends and family and then in 2021, turned it into an official business.

Courtneys goal with leather work today is to show the world the beauty of western art. Whether that be the art of horse training, working cattle, working stock dogs  or crafting leather. The art of the western world is perhaps considered a dying trade, but here at bar c, it is a goal to show the world the beauty in it and bring back the western way of life.

Bar C strives to produce leather products in that fashion; beautiful but strong and built to last
